Stratford’s U15 cricketers opened this summer’s campaign with an encouraging performance away at Nuneaton.

Batting first, Stratford opener Harry Dube and partner Charlie Palenciano Middleton built a competitive tally supplemented by May, Element, Rickett, Sutherland and Dingley, to post a target of 135 for Nuneaton. Dube was finally dismissed by Nuneaton’s Johnson for a fine 70.

Nuneaton openers Ison and Gledhill proved tough subjects, left-hander Ison particularly finding the boundary too often for comfort. But Stratford’s bowlers stuck at it, Joe Element bowling with great economy, until Palenciano Middleton winkled Gledhill out with a beauty of a ball. Nuneaton No 3 Johnson was dismissed with great energy from May, and Ison followed soon after, skying a calmly-taken catch to Dube in the deep.

Ison’s departure sparked four and a bit overs of mayhem off the leg spin of Dube at one end, and Farthing at the other, with three wickets falling to Dube and two to Farthing, including 2 lightning-fast stumpings by Rickett and a splendid acrobatic catch from Beesley, who also brought the match to a close with a wicket off the first ball of the 18th over. Having taken Nuneaton’s last 7 wickets for 19 runs, at 87 all out, Stratford won by 47 runs.
