Looking back on 2018

The 1st XI started strongly in the Birmingham League 3rd Division and were initially promotion contenders before finishing 5th. Spinner James Urquhart finished with 61 wickets, the most by anyone in the entire Birmingham League. Dexter Purser scored over 700 runs whilst Chris Whelan made his first century for the club.

The 2nd XI also finished 5th, in the 2nd XI 2nd Division South. Adam Joseph and Finlay Hatch both made centuries, whilst Richard Smith contributed the most wickets.

The Bards struggled throughout the season with availability and, with no thanks to two forfeited fixtures, were comfortably last in the Cotswold Hills 3rd Division. Despite this, Nick Jones scored over 350 runs including his first century for the club, and the team did manage to beat the league champions Adlestrop.

Looking ahead to 2019

Due to a restructure of the Birmingham League which dissolved several of the lower divisions, the club has now joined the Warwickshire Cricket League. One benefit this brings is significantly less travelling!

The 1st XI will be in the Premier Division whilst the 2nd XI will compete in the 4th Division. Whereas the BDPL has different league structures for 1st and 2nd XIs, this is not the case with the WCL. The Bards will play in Division 4 of the Cotswold Hills League.

A call for new players

The club is open to new playing members who are interested in representing any of our 3 teams. You are welcome to attend winter nets in the New Year (details will be announced in due course) to try out the club.

Whilst we aim to play competitive, winning cricket, we also want to play the game right – as emphasised by the 1st XI winning their division’s Fair Play award in 2017. We hope you find the club to be welcoming and fun, but also ambitious and a place for you to become a better cricketer.

If you are interested in joining, please contact either Richard Sykes (07841 199 913) or Will Noble (07971 968 471). We look forward to hearing from you.
